In Buckinghamshire the current policy is for children to start school part-time in the term in which their fifth birthday falls. Carrington Infant School admits children in the September of the academic year in which their fifth birthday occurs i.e., the beginning of the child's reception year. Initially children attend on a part-time basis, mornings only. By October half term of their reception year all children will be attending full-time. The LEA will try to ensure that your child will go to your first preference school. First preference forms are available from the school office along with Bucks 'Guide to Parents' which explains the procedure for applying for a school place. If the number of first preferences exceeds the school's admission number for the year the following criteria are applied: 1/ Children who have a statement of Special Educational Needs which names the school. 2/ Children in Public Care for whom there is an agreement between a designated officer acting on behalf of the County Council as Corporate Parent and a designated officer of the LEA that the school will more appropriately meet that child's needs. 3/ Children Living with the Catchment Area of the school. Click here for details of the catchment area 4/ Siblings of children who will still be in attendance at Carrington Infant or Carrington Junior school on the date of admission. (This will be checked before an offer is made). 5/ Children with exceptional medical or social needs supported by written evidence from a doctor, social worker education welfare officer or other appropriate person. 6/ Children with exceptional educational needs, supported by written evidence from an appropriate professional. 7/ Once the above criteria have been applied, then further places will be awarded according to the to the distance between the family's normal home address and the schools nearest entrance gate; closest first. The shortest designated public route is a public route with a proper made up surface, such as tarmac or concrete. If it is a road, it does not have to have a separate pavement. Please note that if you have a pre-school or nursery place it does not ensure a place at the school when there is over subscription. If you do not start at the schools pre-school provision you are still entitled to be consider for a place through the application of the above criteria. The intended admission number for the academic year 2011/12 will be 60 pupils. We will be holding prospective parents meeting for children wishing to start school from September 2011 on: Tuesday 13 July 2010 at 1.30 pm. To download a copy of the
