CURRICULUM FOUNDATION STAGE. Children in the Nursery and Reception classes follow the curriculum for the Foundation Stage which prepares them for learning in Key Stage 1 and is consistent with the National Curriculum. They follow six areas of learning:- · Language and Literacy KEY STAGE ONE From the beginning of Year 1 all children are taught the subjects of the National Curriculum plus Religious Education. The children progress according to their ability which may vary between subjects. Class teachers teach all the subjects to their pupils but are able to receive advice and information from other members of staff having expertise in a particular subject.
Every class has the use of a computer, tape recorder and other forms of technology. Computers are used as an integral and beneficial resource within the classroom encouraging confidence and providing experience in word processing, data handling, etc extending the cross-curricular activities of the children. There is also an ICT suite with Internet access of which every class has regular use.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES We run a number of lunch time clubs. These include a gardening club, art club and various sporting activities (eg dance, gym and cricket) A football club operates after school each week during the Spring, Summer and Autumn months. ASSESSMENT Staff continually assess children from the moment they are admitted to school and each child works at regular intervals in his/her Assessment Book. Formal assessment takes place when: a) a child enters the Reception class – Baseline
Assessment, and, The Key Stage 1 SATs results for the school and latest national results are published later in this prospectus. The school uses the approved Bucks LEA Baseline Assessment. . |
