Storytime Podcast
We are delighted to announce the launch of Carrington Story Time, our brand‑new school podcast created to celebrate the joy of reading across our Infant and Junior Federation. The first episode is available here INTRODUCTORY EPISODE and features children from Year 1, Year 2 and Year 5.
At Carrington School's Federation, we believe that reading opens doors—doors to imagination, knowledge, confidence, and endless possibility. To continue nurturing a strong reading culture across the Federation, Mrs Cliffe and myself have created Carrington Story Time podcast as a fun and accessible way for children to share their love of books with the whole school community
Each podcast episode will feature our pupils as the stars of the show. Children from across the year groups will take turns to introduce stories, read extracts, discuss their favourite books, and share what reading means to them. This platform gives our pupils the opportunity not only to develop their reading fluency, expression and confidence, but also to celebrate one another’s achievements in a creative and exciting new way.
We warmly invite you to listen along at home. Whether you enjoy an episode during the school run, at bedtime, or as part of your family reading time, we hope Carrington Story Time becomes a special part of your week. It is our aim that this podcast inspires even more children to read and helps families discover new stories together.
Links to new episodes will be shared regularly via our school website and Class Dojo.
Thank you, as always, for your support in fostering an understanding of the importance of reading. We can’t wait for you to hear our pupils shine.
Episode 2 of our joint reading podcast features Evie-Mae, Rosie, (Y5) Lexie (Y2) and Molly (Y1). It features 'The Day War Came' by Nicola Davies.
Episode 3 features Kitty and Amelia from Y5 and Lake (Y2) and Betty (Y1). They are reading 'Do not lick this book' by Idan Ben-Barack and Julian Frost which introduces them to the strange, unseen world of microbes all around them.
Episode 4 features Molly (Y2), Eliza (Y1), Kyra and Phoebe (Y5). Our book was chosen by Phoebe who really wanted the younger children in particular to better understand how their feelings work and what they can do to help themselves when they feel sad. The book is 'All About Feelings' by Felicity Brooks.
Episode 5 feature Myla, Elodie and Raileigh from Y5, and Luna, Maisie and Lara from Y1. Lara chose this week's book because she really like the repeated phrase: 'star light - star bright'. The book 'Star Light Star Bright' is by Susie Linn. We have really enjoyed watching the children show such warmth, tolerance, enthusiasm and encouragement towards each other this half term - they actively look forward to Tuesday lunchtimes.
Here is the final episode of the half term. It features Bradley, Olivia and Ruby from Year 5 and Melania, Ella and Mabel from Year 2. This week's book was chosen by Ella - Kindness for Koalas by Zanna Davidson - because she believes that kindness is one of the most important things.
Please find below this week's offering. We had Emily (Y5), Dana (Y4), Gary and Jessica (Y2). They chose to read 'The Copper Tree' which covers tricky themes of grief and loss in a school environment. The children felt it was important to discuss these issues to show that in their words, there can still be happiness even when we're really sad.
This week's episode features Jess R, Daisy and Darcey-Leigh from Year 5, Franio from Year 2 and Grayson and Thea from Year 1. They worked beautifully together to record 'Fergal is Fuming' which tackles strategies for calming down when we are feeling angry or upset. The children added their own thoughts at the end of the episode as well as some of their favourite book recommendations too.
