Swimming

At Carrington Infant School we recognise the importance of learning to swim and giving every child this opportunity, due to our locality. Our children play and live near rivers, we therefore can not underestimate the importance of swimming.  Sport England's latest Active Lives Children and Young People report shows that only 72 per cent of children in Year Seven meet the guidelines to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25m. This is down four per cent compared to 12 months ago and 6.3 per cent below pre-pandemic levels.

We recognise swimming needs to be accessible to all and are passionate about improving these outcomes for our children. We can not underestimate both the physical and mental health benefits of swimming. By the end of 2023 we will have 4 trained level 1 swimming assistants, we  aim to start swimming lessons for our year 2 pupils in the summer term. We are confident our Carrington pupils will ‘sparkle and shine’ with their swimming.
