Talk and Toast

Talk and Toast club runs daily from 8:30am. Part of the way that we fund our Talk and Toast club is from our pupil premium grant. The Pupil Premium is an additional amount of money provided by the Government for those children who are entitled to receive FSM (Free School Meals) or have received FSM in the last six years. Therefore children who are in receipt of pupil premium are offered a place at Talk and Toast. In addition, we also offer this to pupils who are struggling with coming into school, confidence or to further develop their speaking and listening skills.

One of our curriculum drivers this year is oracy. We are always looking for ways that we can support children in their confidence to speak aloud and in a group. Talk and Toast gives plenty of opportunities for children to talk about their day, their morning, what they are looking forward to or anything else that may pop into their mind! The school is very busy and we wanted to provide a further opportunity for spontaneous conversation.

The benefits of Talk and Toast that we have seen are huge. Children have a calm start to their day as they have had the opportunity to have a chat about their day, their feelings and what they are looking forward to. The children have the opportunity to take turns and listen to the views of others. They build new relationships with a range of adults and children across the school. The children come into class ready to learn.
